This paper contributes to the reflection on the role of military institutions in peacebuilding in Colombia. It presents the results of a research into the social representations of post-conflict and peace in members of the Military Forces of Colombia, in which a total of 151 active members of the Army, Navy and Air Force participated, and a qualitative design using the interview technique was used. The results show the social representations associated with the belief that the post-conflict is an opportunity to build peace and reduce violence in the country, and that, consequently, the living conditions of the citizens and reincorporated members of the FARC-EP can be improved. Likewise, a representation of the post-conflict was found as an opportunity to carry out institutional reforms and assume the challenge that the Colombian military adopt new roles and functions. In conclusion, the commitment shown by the Military Forces with peace is highlighted, recognizing it as a right and a necessity in society.
