GONZALEZ DE REQUENA FARRE, Juan Antonio. Nation-naming in Chilean Political Discourse (1818-1989). Civilizar [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.44, e20230105. Epub 17-Feb-2025. ISSN 1657-8953. https://doi.org/10.22518/jour.ccsh/20230105.
This study aims to describe the transformations of lexicons of collective identification in Chile through different expressions of political discourse: constitutional texts, presidential speeches, and partisan declarations. A content analysis of 58 documents from Chilean political history was carried out. The results show significant differences in the use of the state lexicon, the republican lexicon, the patriotic lexicon, the national lexicon and the popular lexicon, among others, depending on both the sociohistorical context and the genre of political discourse. It can be concluded that in the Chilean political discourse there are complex articulations of the different vocabularies of political identification, more than an exclusively nationalist identification; in this sense, the ideological recourse to the national lexicon only increased with the crisis of the liberal parliamentary State, in which a normative understanding around the republican lexicon was more frequent.
