Objective. This research analyzed the meanings which, from the point of view of subjectivity, and in the context of great social and labor-related transformations, a group of workers from different socio-economic conditions gave to their future employment situation. Method. 30 autobiographical interviews were carried out with people of working age, and of different occupational and sociodemographic levels. A contents analysis was made of data gathered, and with the Atlas Ti tool. Results. Categories and relationships were found, leading to the conclusion that the workers see their future employment in independent work as a way of facing uncertainty, equality and as a form of resistance against the practices of the authoritarian heads of human resources and long working hours. Conclusión. A review is recommended of the ways of working in companies and the policies of current social development.
