Abstract

CORDOVA MORENO, María Alejandra; CUBILLAS RODRIGUEZ, María José  and  ROMAN PEREZ, Rosario. ¿Es posible prevenir el suicidio? Evaluación de un programa de prevención en estudiantes de bachillerato. Pensam. psicol. [online]. 2011, vol.9, n.17, pp.21-32. ISSN 1657-8961.

Objective. To evaluate a secondary prevention program of suicide risk behavior in educated adolescents and their families using a familial democratization focus. Method. A prospective, exploratory study in which participative methodology (reflection-action workshops) was employed; and a pre and post test evaluation of 81 secondary and tertiary education students and their families was applied. Results. A level-based analysis was used to note that some participants improved notably both in their levels of suicidal ideation as in depression. Statistically significant were the anxiety levels before and after the program implementation (p<.001). Conclusions. Workshop participation was evaluated positively by both parents and adolescents. It is recommended that the length of workshops be increased as well as the implementation of other prevention measures involving parents.

Keywords : Secondary prevention; suicide; depression; adolescents; family relationships.
