Abstract
GARCIA-ALANDETE, Joaquín. Factor Analysis of the Spanish Version of the Purpose-in-Life Test According to Age and Gender. Pensam. psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.1, pp.83-98. ISSN 1657-8961.
Objective. The psychometric characteristics of the Spanish version of the Purpose-In-Life Test-10 Items to assess the meaning of life, and the differences associated to gender and age, are analyzed, among 180 Spanish university graduates (138 women, 42 men), aged from 18 to 55 years (M = 22.91, SD = 6.71). Method. Statistics included: (a) the data - model fit by means of confirmatory factor analysis; (b) the descriptive statistics of items, scale, and factors; (c) an estimation of the internal consistency of the scale and the factors; (d) the correlations between the items, the scale, and the factors; (e) the comparisons on the basis of gender and age. Results. The scale showed an adequate fit and acceptable-high internal consistency. The women scored higher in the Goals and Purposes in Life factor, and the middle-aged group (30-55) obtained significantly higher ranking in the total score, and in several items on the scale higher than the younger people (18-29). Discussion. The Purpose-In-Life Test-10 Items is reliable, and the differences in the meaning of life age-associated suggest cognitive-motivational and developmental explanatory hypotheses.
