CARRENO, Sonia Patricia y CHAPARRO-DIAZ, Lorena. Groups of Family Caregivers in Colombia: Profile, Caregiving Ability and Overburdening. Pensam. psicol. [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.1, pp.87-101. ISSN 1657-8961. https://doi.org/10.11144/Javerianacali.PPSI15-1.ACFC.
Objective. To explore the correlation between sociodemographic variables, caregiver burden and ability in a sample of caregivers of people with chronic diseases in Colombia to understand their ways of establishing groups. Method. The sample consisted of 1137 family caregivers. A characterization survey of the dyad, Caregiver Ability Inventory (CAI) and the Zarit burden interview were used. We carried out factor analysis, and k-means clustering in order to achieve the aim of the project. Results. It was found that caregivers were grouped according to their region of origin, in four geographical groups: Andean and Pacific, Andean, Caribbean and Amazon. In addition, it was found that each group had specific needs of care for the caregiver. Conclusion. The groups identified reflect the national cultural diversity of the country and the urgency to explore sociocultural factors that may be influencing ability to care and caregiver burden, according to their region of origin.
