Resumen

This article refers to the development of Psychology as a profession and observes that, in spite of the traditional clinical view, there have been several changes related to the psychologists’ competence and also to the view of those subjects under psychological care. Consequently, different specialties appeared into the Psychology field, and among them, Hospital Health Psychology. As far as Psychology develops itself into this new territory, new topics to be faced emerge too, such as a theoretical/practical reference field offered by the educational agencies, based on its own knowledge and that would be able to become a reference for the basic education of the professional who intends to work in this field. Therefore, it is indispensable to discuss the education of the Psychologist of Hospital Health, and this paper intends to make a contribution for a further understanding of the performance of the professionals who act in Rio Grande do Norte State - Brazil.
