Abstract

GARCIA ALVAREZ, CLAUDIA MARÍA. THE HOSPITAL AS AN ENTERPRISE: NEW PRACTICES, NEW WORKERS. Univ. Psychol. [online]. 2007, vol.6, n.1, pp.143-154. ISSN 1657-9267.

This paper is the result of an organizational culture research made in a public hospital, aimed to make an approximation to discourses circulating in a hospital which is in process of transformation towards an “Empresa Social del Estado”. The analysis illustrates how the transformation of hospital into a productive enterprise leads to the displaying of new ways of doing things and new discourses imported from the context -client, registers and administrative control, information management, flexibilization of labor, efficiency- that contribute to the worker’s construction. However, opposing voices against changes embedded in economic logic make evident that the new order is no hegemonic so far.

Keywords : organizational psychology; organizational culture; health sector; critical approach.
