Abstract

MONTOYA, BIBIANA  and  GUTIERREZ, GERMÁN. NIKOLAAS TINBERGEN (1907-1988): SUS CONTRIBUCIONES AL ESTUDIO DEL COMPORTAMIENTO. Univ. Psychol. [online]. 2007, vol.6, n.3, pp.727-730. ISSN 1657-9267.

Nikolaas Tinbergen was one of the most important naturalists of the Twentieth Century. He was one of the founders of Ethology, and a pioneer researcher on the study of animal behavior. A review of his academic life and contributions is presented. Tinbergen proposed a taxonomy of ontogenetic and phylogenetic levels of explanation, provided empirical evidence for multiple ethological concepts, and developed the idea of using comparative methods in behavior to study evolution.
