TORRES-NOLASCO, MARIZOL et al. Relationship Between School Grades and Three Anxiety Indexes for Medical Students. Univ. Psychol. [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.1, pp.69-86. ISSN 1657-9267.

Entering college is associated to changes that could challenge emotional stability and that might decrease the likelihood of academic success. With the aim of exploring the relationship between anxiety and academic performance of Medical students. 81 Mexican students participated in the study in a triple assessment session (Verbal, Behavioral, and Physiological). Instruments included the Zung Anxiety Text (Hernández-Pozo, Macías, Calleja, Cerezo & Del Valle, 2008), a list of potentially stressful events, a computerized task based on the Stroop emotional paradigm, and phyisiological monitoring of blood pressure and pulse before and after the behavioral task. A non-lineal relation between anxiety and academic performance was found. Results support previous findings pointing that high levels of anxiety are related to low academic performance. There was no difference in anxiety levels associated to gender.
