INTRODUCTION: In city of Cali, Colombia, injuries to pedestrian have become an important problem in public health, due to serious consecuences and incapacities generated road accidents during the last nine years. OBJETIVE: The main objective of this research is to establish the characteristics from pedestrians in the high accidentally places in Cali. METHODOLOGY: This is a non-experimental, descriptive and observational research, which has collected its information through opinion polls, formats of direct observation, photos and interview from the places related during the 23th of July and 14th of August of 2002. The stadistic program Epi Info version 6.04d with univaried an bivaried analysis was also, an important tool used. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The size of the sample was 500 people being 323 men (64.6%) and 177 women (35.4%). The 61% from the sample assured have been witness in a road accident where in which a pedestrian had been injured. 64.38% from witness consider the pedestrian as the responsable. It was found that the non use of safety belt and traffic sign are strongly related with the ages being the youngest group (10 to 19 years old) with the highest risk of suffering a road accident and the group with age above 59 years old with the lowest risk thanks to the goog-heatly behaviors. The environment also plays an important role in the generation of accidents because of its influence on the pedestrian’s behavior.
