Resumen
PADILLA JIMENEZ, Luis Fernando et al. Coloration of the AISI 304 and AISI 316L stainless steels for biomedical applications. Iteckne [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.2, pp.229-241. ISSN 1692-1798.
In this work, chromium oxide films were developed on the surface of the AISI 304 and 316L stainless steels by chemical and electrochemical hardening treatments. Thus, the influence of different variables in both treatments (i.e. immersion time, current density applied,...) was investigated. Characterization of the chromium films was carried out using spectrometry, reflectance and optical microscopy techniques. Further, electrochemical stability of the films was evaluated by potentiodynamic anodic polarization in Hank's solution at 37°C. The results showed that, under some specific conditions, it was possible to obtain homogeneous and reproducible chromium oxide films with a wide range of colors. On the other hand, the electrochemical results showed that the films formed modified the corrosion mechanism of both stainless steels.
