Abstract
LOPEZ CAMARGO, Sonia Patricia. Democracy: a cognitive analysis. anagramas rumbos sentidos comun. [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.17, pp.57-66. ISSN 1692-2522.
The most recent developments in cognitive linguistics have postulated new ways to analyze language trough "discourse analysis" (because trough discourse organization is possible to search for cognitive processes involved in its elaboration). One of these cognitive processes is the creation of new mental spaces that, nowadays, have become a common source for analysis. For this motive, some linguists have postulated different models to explain its conformation. Within these models, one of the most important is the "blending". Even when this model could seem completely theoretical, it's possible to apply it to any kind of discourse. To prove this affirmation, in the paper is analyzed the discursive object "democracy" in the political discourse used by the former president of Mexico, Vicente Fox Quesada, during his presidential campaign in the year 2000, based on the "blending model" developed by the cognitive linguistics.
