Abstract
PEREZ GARCES, Helena; ZARATE YEPES, Carlos Alberto and TURBAY CEBALLOS, Sandra María. Environmental Conflicts: Biodiversity as a Territory Ordering Strategy. Opin. jurid. [online]. 2011, vol.10, n.spe, pp.89-104. ISSN 1692-2530.
The interest for biodiversity protection creates unprecedented environmental conflicts such as the one with inhabitants from San Sebastián de Palmitas and San Cristóbal villages in Medellin Municipality, resulting from the creation of an Integrated Handling District. To appropriately tackle treatment, an approach dealing deeply with the nature of environmental conflicts is required; an approach which includes characteristics of rural communities, analyzes interactions among societies and their natural environment, and looks for alternatives so that decisions on conservation can be made consistent with preservation of sustainable rural economies.
Keywords : environmental conflicts; natural resources; biodiversity; territorial development; integrated handling district (IHD).
