JANK-CALIXTO, Angela  e  CARVALHO, Luciani Coimbra de. Human Rights in Times of Crisis: The Reflect of Coronavirus in State Compliance with International Standards. Opin. jurid. [online]. 2020, vol.19, n.spe40, pp.441-464.  Epub 21-Set-2021. ISSN 1692-2530.  https://doi.org/10.22395/ojum.v19n40a21.

The objective of this paper is to show, by means of a qualitative research and the adoption of the deductive method, how the COVID-19 pandemic can lead to greater State compliance with human rights protection standards. Through a historical analysis of the development and protection of human rights in the international scenario, it is perceived that crisis situations have the capacity to produce positive effects and a change in society's way of thinking. Furthermore, after reflecting on the effect of the pandemic on the relations between countries around the globe, it is noted that the current exceptional situation, despite generating a series of adverse effects regarding the protection of human rights -by exposing the fragility of health systems and social policies of countries affected by the disease-, has also unchained other effects on the behavior of States toward individuals. It is concluded that the coronavirus pandemic has the ability to raise the perception of the costs of noncompliance as well as the long-term benefits of a greater focus on the protection of human rights, encouraging greater compliance with international standards.
