The social and economic indicators of poverty and work precariousness locate Colombia in a scenario of violation to the right so subsistence. Thus, this article has as its main goal the achieving a conceptual outlining of universal basic income and the elements that must be taken into account for this proposal to materialize while fulfilling the objective of mitigating poverty and work precariousness. For that, this study performed a review of the available literature structured in three parts: the first one, on poverty and precariousness, the second one on the concept of universal basic income, and the third one on the elements necessary for a universal basic income to decrease the problems detailed in the first part. Thus, the study concluded that this mechanism might be useful to mitigate the monetary aspect of poverty and precariousness if it’s recognized conjunctly with the guaranteeing of social and economic rights that have already materialized.
