Abstract

AGUIRRE RAMIREZ, Néstor J.; PALACIO BAENA, Jaime A.; CORREA OCHOA, Isabel C.  and  HERNANDEZ ATILANO, Esnedy. ASSAYS OF ALGAL BIO-STIMULATION WITH DIFFERENT NITROGEN-PHOSPHORUS RELATIONS UNDER LABORATORY CONDITIONS. Rev. ing. univ. Medellin [online]. 2007, vol.6, n.11, pp.11-21. ISSN 1692-3324.

The main objective of this work was to evaluate the growth of algal population Chlorella vulgaris in different concentrations from nitrogen and phosphorus, through tests of algal stimulation in an environmental camera. The answer variables were algal density and turbidity, evaluated by count in a camera of Neubauer and with a photometric method (# 077, using NOVA 60 equipment). For the algal stimulation tests, methods suggested by APHA, AWWA (1995) with different phosphorus and nitrogen concentrations were used In general we concluded that the algal stimulation of the population growth of C. vulgaris depends on the stoichiometric relation between nitrogen and phosphorus. In synthesis when phosphorus becomes a less limit, a greater rate of population growth, appears; nevertheless nitrogen is also essential and both nutrients cannot be analyzed independently. Therefore increase or lessening of concentrations of these nutrients in aquatic ecosystems should be jointly studied through a stoichiometric relationship.

Keywords : Density algal; growth; nitrogen; phosphorus; algal stimulation.
