Abstract

CORREA, Rodrigo; PENA, Julián  and  REYES, Óscar. Prototype detector based on an electric field. Rev. ing. univ. Medellín [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.15, pp.115-128. ISSN 1692-3324.

This article describes the design and construction of a prototype system that senses objects perturbing a uniform electric field generated in a defined volume. To set up this system, an electric circuit capable of detecting any moving object even through a 0.15meter-thick brick wall was designed and built. Although the excellent electrodes sensibility to any object's position change going into or out the field, it was found the need for a reference electrode. Tests were carried out in order to check the system's movement sensibility. It was observed that the relative size and shape of the electrodes affects the detector’s sensitivity for getting slow movements.

Keywords : electric field; electrodes; instrumentation; sensors.
