Abstract

RODRIGUEZ DE LA P, GLORIA CARMENZA; HLEAP Z, JOSÉ IGOR  and  ZULUAGA G, CLAUDIA LILIANA. EXTRACT EVALUATION OF ARYL ACKEE (Bliglia Sapida K) WITH HYPOGLYCEMIC PROPERTIES IN BIOMODELS. Rev.Bio.Agro [online]. 2012, vol.10, n.2, pp.8-17. ISSN 1692-3561.

An aqueous extract of the aril of ackee (Blighia sapida) is designed to test their blood glucose lowering effect in mice with induced diabetes. 5 treatments were performed with different concentrations of the extract applied to balb / c mice, 4 treatments to animals with induced diabetes (3 concentrations of the extract of 50%, 30% and a 10% insulin) and a concentration of 50% with mice without diabetes. Were applied orally for a period of 10 weeks, during which time data were obtained from glucose and weight. For statistical analysis we used SPSS version 19; Tukey post-variance analysis, and demonstrate that the first 4 treatments produced similar effect in lowering blood glucose, indicating that the effect of treatment with ackee is comparable to that produces insulin. With the application of the extract was able to reduce the glucose level from values of 200 mg / dL to 95 mg / dL. With respect to weight changes, the application of the treatments did not significantly influence the weight of biomodels, because they were not deprived of food and ackee, and some extent the extract is a source of protein, carbohydrates and fat.
