During the brown sugar loaf production, there result 40-54% sugar cane husks as by-product, poor in protein and energy content, but high in low digestible lignocellulosic components and therefore used for combustion in industrial stoves. In the present work, sugar cane husks enriched with the Pleurotus ostreatus fungus was evaluated as dietary supplement for cattle in comparison to other treatments with and without commercial supplementation. A diet consisting in 18 Kg king grass (Saccharum sinense), 6 Kg sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum), 3 Kg sugar cane tops (Saccharum officinarum), 3 Kg poultry manure and 0,6 Kg of sugar cane molasses, as well as ad libitum offered supplements for the treatments when required. Daily weight increase, feed conversion, dry matter consumption and cost-benefit variables were evaluated. No significant differences (P<0.05) for the three treatments respecting the variables were found. Nevertheless, the highest weight increases and food conversion values were reached with the supplementation evaluated. This treatment also revealed a low variable costs increase (8%), and, including or not the fungous production, a field net benefit of 58 and 24%, respectively.
