Abstract

SERNA-COCK, LILIANA; DUSSAN SARRIA, SAUL  and  AYALA-APONTE, ALFREDO. COMMERCIAL LIFE OF YELLOW PITAHAYA TREATED WITH 1-MCP. Rev.Bio.Agro [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.1, pp.19-29. ISSN 1692-3561.

1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), an inhibitor of ethylene, has been used to extend the shelf life of various fruits. The aim of this job was to evaluate the effect of application of aqueous solutions of 10, 100 and 200 g L-1 1-MCP, with exposure times of 1, 5 and 10 minutes on the shelf life of yellow pitahaya. During 15 days of storage (25 ± 2 ° C and 75% relative humidity), physical changes such as weight loss and the presence of browning, and chemical changes as soluble solids, pH, acidity and maturity index were evaluated. Significant differences between treatments were found. The results showed that application of 200 gL-1 1-MCP for 10 minutes, increasing shelf life of yellow pitahaya in 3 days, and reduces changes in soluble solids and acidity
