Abstract
ZUNINO, Esteban and ARUGUETE, Natalia. The importance of the news in press. Comparative analysis of the YPF's media treatment between the main Argentinian and Spanish newspapers. Encuentros [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.2, pp.39-55. ISSN 1692-5858. https://doi.org/10.15665/re.v13i2.497.
This study aims to compare the Argentinean and Spanish press coverage about nationalization of YPF oil company. Specifically it seeks to establish: 1) the issue ´s frequency on the news; 2) the hierarchy; 3) the variables associated with acquired importance in the press. A content analysis was developed on the covers of the Argentines dailies Clarín, La Nación and Página/12 and the Spanish newspapers ABC, El Mundo and El País. In addition to counting the number of articles, the variables "size", "type of holder", "graphic accompaniment", "intro" and "valence" are analyzed. Findings shows a similar behavior in terms of frequency between the six dailies, although significant differences were found in terms of hierarchy. Finally, while the news assessment is predominantly negative in the Spanish press, Argentine newspapers show substantial differences between them. It is concluded that the news coverage was affected by national contexts. The study is based upon the theoretical Agenda Setting perspective.
