This paper presents an experience of inclusive education developed in a Colombian educational institution, located in social and cultural environment that hinder the provision of educational services. This study aimed to coordinate the efforts of teachers, students, parents and other members of the educational community, around activities for improving educational quality. This initiative was carried out following the seven methodological steps for transforming schools to Learning Communities, through an action research process, which identified the main needs in the institution, fostering a participatory process of the educational community, and strengthen the relationship between the cultural knowledge of the whole community and academic knowledge.
