Abstract

This article, presents the results that characterized the contribution of communication plans in the dynamics of environmental protection of the National Parks (PNN) in Colombia. To do so, it makes an analysis of the National Action Plan, specific management plans to each protected areas, including institutional documents; and semi-structured interviews to PNN education and communication guideline officers. The study finds that in the protection strategies PPN exists an inherent link between environmental education and community communication. This intrinsic link is based on personal interaction face to face between officers and park communities, so the media represent an secondary level in the interpersonal strategies. Finally, the article concludes that the role of communication in protecting the PNN can includes to seek of pro-environment behavior and formation of a more complex environmental awareness.
