Abstract
ECHAVARRIA GRAJALES, Carlos Valerio. La escuela: un escenario de formación y socialización para la construcción de identidad moral. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2003, vol.1, n.2, pp.15-43. ISSN 1692-715X.
This paper seeks to relate four categories which are involved in human development: school, socialization, self-identity and morality. I intend to show the school, not as the educational institution which performs important technical and administrative tasks, but as an institution which is concerned with the process of socialization of children and with their development of self-identity as moral subjects. The construction of moral subjects takes place in the interaction and confrontation with peers, teachers and other socialization agents in the discussion of topics which pose moral problems, which lead to the agreement on norms and values which make in possible to live in society. This implies reasoning on processes which involve normative sanctions, responsibility for decision making and its consequences, and attention to attitudes in a perspective of rights based on respect and a perspective of duty based on responsibility.
