CAYCEDO, Claudia et al. Relación entre variables de control parental y prácticas de juego en niños y niñas de 10 a 13 años de edad en la ciudad de Bogotá. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2005, vol.3, n.1, pp.123-152. ISSN 1692-715X.
This paper is part of a larger research project undertaken in the framework of behavioral analysis. Its objective was to identify the relations between parental control and game practices in a group of 91 10-to-13-year-old children in Bogotá, Colombia. Children participated as volunteers after the researchers visited their schools. They were sampled proportionally by a non-probabilistic quota sampling procedure. Parents' informed consent was also required. Parents and children were both interviewed with a semi-structured interview. A descriptive and correlational methodology through contingency and correlation coefficients was applied according to the variables measured. Results are analyzed in the light of the scientific literature in terms of metacontingencies, and cultural and family rules that can promote and maintain certain game practices in the target sample, some of which can become problematic. Significant relations were found between parental control variables and game practices, and also between parents' concept of the game as entertainment or as a disruptive action, and gaming frequency and intensity in their child. Results are discussed and intervention alternatives are proposed.
