This paper offers ideas and reflections about the qualitative approach to social research, starting from the methodological construction developed in the research project "Life trajectory of three generations of an urban family from the city of Manizales: Between the overcoming and the reproduction of poverty". As an academic result, it has a double intent: on one hand, to configure a significant contribution to those who are engaged in the production of knowledge or do work or research from a qualitative approach in the area of family, and, on the other hand, to become a starting point for new and more complex discussions on this topic.
