The article presented here, treats, in general terms, the main points of view of the German psychologist Niklas Luhmann about Max Weber's ideas and his theory of social action, and those of Talcott Parsons with his statements about the theory of social systems. At the end of the article, special emphasis is made on the fundamental role that for Luhmann the social and human sciences have on the social system's self-reference.
