SANCHEZ AMAYA, Tomás y ACOSTA AYERBE, Alejandro. Peasant folk music. Social uses, inroads into school scenarios, and appropriation by children: The musical approach of Velosa and his "Carrangueros". Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2008, vol.6, n.1, pp.111-146. ISSN 1692-715X.
This paper offers an analysis of a specific musical type, the traditional Colombian peasant folk music called "Música Carranguera", its beginnings, its development, the inroads it has made into school scenarios, its possible social uses, and its appropriation in such scenarios. This paper consists of two parts. The first attempts to provide an account of the processes of emergency, development and consolidation of this specific musical type. The second displays the ways in which this type of music has gradually advanced into schools. This second part incorporates an analysis of the treatment that this type of music, in particular the approach of Velosa and his "Carrangueros", offers school children, the links and relationships between music and education, and its possible contributions in terms of axiological or values education. For its theoretical foundations, this analysis appeals to some current developments in ethno-musicology, and for its methodological foundations, to some elements of content analysis.
