Resumen

BOCANEGRA ACOSTA, Elsa María. From confinement to paradise. Dominant imaginaries in Colombian contemporary schools: A look from schools in Bogotá. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2008, vol.6, n.1, pp.319-346. ISSN 1692-715X.

This paper is a synthesis of a larger study about imaginary production in the modes of being of Bogotá schools, based on an attempt to differentiate what is already installed as real and concrete fact from what could have been, according to what is proposed in the discursivity about the same object. The aim of the study was to relate two contemporary currents of research: Michel Foucault's analysis of power through archaeology, and Armando Silva's studies on imaginaries, in which social perceptions are taken as object in order to understand patterns of circulation of desires as collectively expressed. The main contribution intended in this study was to weave two-way arguments, to make evident their mutual pertinence, and to start a dialogue between these two thought currents to refine the analysis of education in Colombian schools. In the methodological aspect, the paper shows how to apply different tools, like statistics for the social sciences; elaboration of semantic fields in the fashion of discourse analysis, and image analysis or language rhetoric as developed by hermeneutic disciplines. These tools allowed the author not only to perform a spatial study of schools, regarding the continuity of the closed architecture of ancient hospices, but also to establish a direct relationship with discourses about school in order to see it in its double perception as a place for education versus a place for training.

Palabras clave : Archaeology; imaginaries; discourses; school architecture; confinement; education; training.
