Resumen

CASTANEDA CAMEY, Nicté Soledad. Migration dynamics and process to the United States: Guadalajara youngsters, Jalisco, Mexico. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2009, vol.7, n.2, suppl.1, pp.1459-1490. ISSN 1692-715X.

This paper aims at consolidating a spatial and temporary approach to the urban migration of youths from the Guadalajara Metropolitan Zone (GMZ) to the United States, from its conception as a process in its entire dynamic totality; that is, from a set of holistically taken interrelated features. The migration process and dynamics of both male and female urban GMZ youngsters will be analyzed in its structural and historical dimension. This work consists of three separate issues: first, the present historical, social and cultural conditions of migration from Mexico to the United States, from the description of the essence of migration, how it is differentiated from other processes and, therefore, its definition as a particular social phenomenon, profoundly regional, until it becomes a national phenomenon. Then, the definition of some Mexican implications from the perspective of commercial aperture and its relation with international migration to the United States and, finally, the link of structural transformations undergone by the Jalisco region and the increasing incorporation of the urban population to international migration, specifically the migration of both male and female youths from GMZ.

Palabras clave : Mexico-United States migration; structural and historical dimension; urban migration and youth.
