Resumen

ROJAS BETANCUR, Héctor Mauricio. To skill male and female researchers at the university: optimism and juvenile indifference about scientific matters. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2009, vol.7, n.2, suppl.1, pp.1595-1618. ISSN 1692-715X.

The generalized agreement prevailing in the Higher Education Institutions -IES- about the importance of the development of the scientific and technological activity has not been discussed widely at university level. This article explores the male and female youths’ opinions, conditions and perceptions about research in IES in the Province of Tolima, Colombia, and the way they perceive what is done and not done in higher education with reference to research skilling. It has been indicated that one of the major problems for IES in generating knowledge is the training and retention of new male and female researchers. Although young people display a positive attitude towards research, there are great educational difficulties to reach that purpose. There are recurrent failures in the intentionality of skilling researchers, in communicating the scientific activity to youths, thus reducing their predisposition and participation in research during their professional training cycle. Nevertheless, it is worth noting the importance of skilling young male and female researchers in the framework of a more integral education, endowed with a social meaning for an effective professional exercise and with great benefits for the IES themselves, for the renovation of the scientific spirit and for social development, according to the perspective of the youth collective.
