Abstract

SANTILLAN, Laura. Social configurations of rearing in popular neighborhoods in Great Buenos Aires. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2010, vol.8, n.2, pp. 921-932. ISSN 1692-715X.

In this article we put forward an anthropological investigation regarding the upbringing and the care of childhood in contexts of inequality and social transformation. The interest is to discuss certain assumptions that tend to limit the educational practices of poor sectors to "traditional patterns" and as restricted to the privacy of family life. However, a number of expectable actors intervene in the domestic initiatives related to the upbringing and the attention of children that we analyze, but also a set of subjects and non formalized institutions become relevant in every-day life in these territories where the children belong to. We will base our analysis in the interviews and the ethnographic records that we carried out in settlements located in the north area of the Gran Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Keywords : upbringing; family education; childhood; poor neighborhoods social inequality; every-day life.
