In this article I describe the discontinuities and conditions of existence and emergency of punishment in the field of public instruction in the United States of Colombia in the case specific of the Sovereign State of Antioquia between 1867-1880. Departing from a genealogical perspective, but without leaving out the archeological tools, I analyze the punishment as a technology of power that acted on the transgressions that represented a menace for the implementation of the education plan within each one of two scenarios: that of the Union that promoted an educational system based on the ideas of liberalism or the education rooted in the conservationist postulates which in Antioquia, and based on the moralizing rationalism, did not denied the economicism nor the scientificism related to the liberal ideologies.
