Abstract

KROPFF, Laura. Debates about politics among young Mapuche in Argentina. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2011, vol.9, n.1, pp. 83-99. ISSN 1692-715X.

This article uses an anthropological approach to analyze definitions of politics among different groups of young activists within the contemporary Mapuche movement in Argentina. First, I present a short description of the Mapuche organizational landscape in the northern provinces of Patagonia since the 1990s in order to present the context of emergence of self-defined "young" activists. Second, I explain my theoretical approach, and, in doing so, present the tensions and relations between academic approaches and native theories. Finally, I focus on the trajectories and perspectives of three different groups of young Mapuche in the city of Bariloche, province of Río Negro.

Keywords : Young people; mapuche; politics; militancy; body; Argentina.
