Resumen

DIAZ, Claudia Milena  y  CELIS, Jorge Enrique. Training for work in secondary education in Colombia. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2011, vol.9, n.1, pp.371-380. ISSN 1692-715X.

Based on the analysis of the teacher proposals to Award 'Compartir al Maestro', nominated in 2009 for the category of Vocational Education and Training (VET), this article reflects on the chances and effects of programs that integrate the upper secondary education and vocational education delivered by Sena (National VET Service), so as on the initiatives around entrepreneurship in high school. These efforts are becoming the main strategies for public sector and several schools to confront the scarce opportunities of postsecondary education and employment for vulnerable youth. The article also highlights the consequences of early specialization promoted by both programs, so as the limited chances that schools are able to provide to develop businesses that overcome the subsistence entrepreneurship. Finally, the paper compares the reach of the mentioned strategies with the upper secondary functions in the contemporary society, which are related with the opportunity for vocational exploration, the provision of career counselling and guidance, beside with the development of creative abilities and technical and scientific skills.

Palabras clave : Vocational education and training; secondary education; youth.
