Abstract

ASUN, Rodrigo et al. Subjective integration and perceived institutional support among secondary students in Chile. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2012, vol.10, n.1, pp.321-338. ISSN 1692-715X.

This article presents the results of a research project on subjective integration and its association to perception of institutional support among secondary students in Santiago, Chile, using psychosocial alienation and anomie constructs. Intermediate levels of general alienation and high levels in lack of social cohesion were found. Institutions that are perceived providing higher support are educational, health and police institutions; in contrast, political institutions as well as armed forces are perceived providing less support. A significant association was found between alienation levels and perception of institutional support. It is concluded that generation of institutional conditions for subjective integration of young people and solidarity ties strengthening are still unresolved tasks in Chile.

Keywords : youth; social alienation; social integration; social norm; anomie; institutional support.
