Abstract

DE LA HOZ, Fabio José; QUEJADA, Raúl  and  YANEZ, Martha. Youth unemployment: problem with perpetual effects. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2012, vol.10, n.1, pp.427-439. ISSN 1692-715X.

This paper discusses theoretical and empirical advances regarding the analysis of youth unemployment, stressing the theoretical arguments concerning the causes of this phenomenon, such as youth population dynamics, structural unemployment, education, and socioeconomic conditions of different countries, and also the consequences, as low income, social exclusion and the rise of youth criminal activity, effects that can be extended for over ten years. On methodological issues, the paper analyzes the conceptual differences used to define a "youth", which vary from country to country and depend on the institutions responsible for national statistics, and in some cases, the economic conditions of countries.

Keywords : youth unemployment; youth demography; education; social exclusion.
