This study compared the intellectual performance of 100 young men (12-17 years old) law offenders versus the performance of 100 young men non offenders. Results indicate that young offenders present a larger proportion of total IQ below average than non offenders. After removing education and socio-economical effects, differences between law offender's IQs and non offender's IQs are still significant, although smaller. These results are consistent with findings from other studies regarding the lower IQ in young offenders, particularly verbal IQ. These results are important in planning rehabilitation strategies, re- schooling and social reinsertion of these adolescents.
