Abstract

PINILLOS, Mónica. Psychosocial and educational interventions to prevent risks associated with migratory processes. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2012, vol.10, n.1, pp.579-591. ISSN 1692-715X.

This article aimed to describe the main theoretical models employed to analyze the relationship between migratory processes and the risk factors associated with changes in mental health. Common mental diseases that can arise as a result of migration are analyzed, and patterns of prevention and intervention are also suggested. A comprehensive intervention is proposed through a multivariate model that combines community and psychological assistance programs. We insist in the need to consider at the same level the factors depending on the society of origin of migrants, those related to the migratory process itself, and the factors depending on the society accepting the migrants. We also emphasize upon the need to combine preventive and therapeutic measures. From the pedagogical point of view, an intercultural education system is proposed, and criteria for its implementation are offered.

Keywords : Migratory process; associated risks; psychosocial and educational intervention; intercultural education.
