Abstract

DUARTE-DUARTE, Jakeline. Contemporary childhoods, media and authority. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.2, pp.461-472. ISSN 1692-715X.

Abstract (Synthetic analytical): This article problematizes childhood and children as contemporary subjects belonging to plural and diverse categories. These surpass the monolithic and universal aspects that characterize the gaze of modernity. This involves recognizing the new contexts of global and local socialization of children. In addition, unprecedented ways to configure their identities from the hegemonic presence of the media provides them ways of knowing, being and being in the world. Similarly, this paper tries to establish how this has led to the reconfiguration of relations of power and authority with significant adults, which has involved a blurring of old patterns of authority and roles of traditional families.
