Abstract

MESA, Ana María  and  GOMEZ, Ana Cristina. Changes in affect awareness through an intervention program for nursery school teachers. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.2, pp.689-701. ISSN 1692-715X.

Abstract (analytical): In the article we present the impact that an intervention program had on the elaboration of affects to favor awareness, targeting ten kindergarten teachers from the city of Cali. The objective was to identify changes in the representation forms and the level of affect tolerance. The method used was descriptive. We evaluate the representation forms and the level of affect tolerance on the basis of the categories of the instrument Verbal Elaboration of Affect (VEA) proposed by Lecours and Bouchard. Stories of painful events remembered by the teachers at the start and at the end of the program were used. The results showed that there were positive changes in the awareness of affects. Nevertheless, in the discussion we leftopen the question about its permanence in time and we pointed out how important it is for kindergarten teachers to have the opportunity to elaborate their emotional childhood experiences.

Keywords : emotional development; interpersonal relations; preschool teachers; awareness; Verbal affect elaboration.
