Abstract

SANCHEZ-AMAYA, Tomás. Educational Evaluation as mechanism for constitution of the Subject. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.2, pp.755-767. ISSN 1692-715X.

Abstract (analytical): This article is an analytical - interpretative one based on Foucault's genealogy; it aims at showing that evaluation was configured into an instrument of constitution of subjects, due to the fact that, through an ample network of technologies and devices, it appears in society and, in multiple and subtle ways, it determines tenuous differentiations between abnormality and normality, what is accepted and refused, good and bad, apt and inept, what suits someone's purposes and what does not, what should be accepted and what should be refused. The investigating exercise -mediated by the analysis of three documentary corpuses (normative, theoretical, meta-theoretical ones,) - shows various typologies of subjects: Selected, classified, certified; driven, procured, negotiated; awarded or punished; with rights and obligations (to evaluate and to be evaluated); submitted perpetually to procedures of evaluation and examination. This analysis evidences how evaluation, installed in the educational systems, works through a plurality of practices and discourses, as a device for the constitution of subjects. The evaluation, in the manner of a new prison, operates as a tool for homogenization; for the surveillance of the individuals, the institutions, and the people; for their regulation, their management, their standardization, their objectification, their control, their domination.

Keywords : Evaluation; educational evaluation; power; evaluation and control; evaluation and discipline.
