Abstract (analytical): The central objective of this article is to unveil the perceptions and assumptions about the educational and cultural nature of a Colombian noteworthy museum institution. The scope is descriptive and the methodology used was the case study. The proposition was presented before the Museum of Antioquia to carry out several workshops with the participation of representatives from all the areas of the Institution (the commercial, curatorship, education, projects, human management, culture, communications, itinerant museum, administration and finances, legal, corporate relations departments). As a result,it became evident that there are various deconstructive and transformingpractices, in keeping with the so-called educational turn that characterizes contemporary museums. The main conclusion is that the Museum staff coincides in the paramount importance of the educating function that the Institution has, nevertheless, they fail to explain how, why and who must be responsible for it.

Keywords : Non-formal education; the educational role of museums.
