Abstract
GOMEZ-ABARCA, Jesús. Graffiti: A political-cultural youth ful expression in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.2, pp.675-689. ISSN 1692-715X. https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.12211120514.
The objective in this article is to help understand the political and cultural components associated with the development of graffiti in San Cristobal de Las Casas. I conducted the research between the years 2010 and 2012, from the qualitative paradigm, based on the interpretation of ethnographic records and interviews with its producers. Graffiti emerges in this city in the 1990’s, as a cultural production around which youth people build individual and collective identities; they represent their realities, they re-appropriate public spaces, they question the social spatial order and generate disputes over the definition of the cityscape. On the basis of these results, I conclude that graffiti is a complex cultural product through which youth people take a stand as political-cultural subjects.
