Based on a survey, this article presents a descriptive analysis of Mexican indigenous adolescents’ perceptions of their autonomy and parental behaviour in the areas of support and control. Specifically the article analyses if the autonomy achieved can be associated with a process of separation/disconnection or separation/connection with parents. This process is linked to the characteristics of parental support and control. The main results identify that authoritarian parenting is the most frequent parenting style used by parents and this seems to be related to the development of a type of disconnected autonomy.
