EID, Ana Paula; ALMEIDA WEBER, João Luis  e  PIZZINATO, Adolfo. Maternity and life plans among young people infected with HIV by vertical transmission. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.2, pp.937-950. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.13227100214.

This paper reports on a qualitative research study that analyses how female young people that are HIV positive due to vertical transmission construct their life plans and, above all their motherhood, through the analysis of narrative autobiographic interviews. The analysis of the interviews employed Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) theory. Two areas of discussion emerged from the study: life plans and motherhood. The narratives point towards the construction of life plans based on four complementary elements: study, work, life partners and the future. The area of motherhood involves six key elements: motherhood, planned and unplanned pregnancies, birth and post-partum, breastfeeding, HIV versus a healthy child, guilt and responsibility. Particular factors such as prejudices, aspirations and fears are crosscutting themes in the daily lives of those living with HIV/Aids. Participants perceives that society doesn’t consider them fit to have a family nor fight for their life projects.
