Abstract

BELTRAN-VELIZ, Juan  and  MANSILLA-SEPULVEDA, Juan. Elements that create obstacles for pedagogical coordinators in vulnerable schools in the Araucanía region of Chile. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.2, pp.1009-1019. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.13232250314.

This article had the objective of identifying the elements that obstruct the practice of educational coordination in high schools located in socially vulnerable contexts in Araucanía. A qualitative descriptive design was used based on grounded theory and the constant comparative method. The results reveal that the coordination of teaching practice is focused on administrative aspects with a notable absence of competences and leadership. The study also found that the evaluative process is not supportive of students’ continuity and permanence. The study concludes that the absence of leadership and competencies among academic coordinators, as well as the fact that their role is focused on "technical guidance that is based on control", are elements that impede teaching coordination practices.

Keywords : educational management; educational coordination; teacher qualifications; living conditions; leadership.
