Abstract
PENA, Mónica and TOLEDO, Camila. Being poor in neoliberal Chile: A discursive study of children in a vulnerable school. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.1, pp.207-218. ISSN 1692-715X. https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.1511225012016.
The authors worked with children in a "vulnerable" school in order to analyse their discourses about learning and social class. This research uses the perspective of critical discourse analysis, which assumes that all discourse is social and that subjects can develop a critical perspective regarding their realities. Through a theoretical problematization of poverty in the neoliberal world, the article includes a description of the qualitative and emergent reseach process and an analysis of some of the results. This accounts for what we call a "mismatch" that poor children have to live with, from two perspectives: territorial and educational. The authors conclude with some reflections on education and overcoming poverty.
