Abstract

DUARTE-QUAPPER, Klaudio; ANINIR-MANRIQUEZ, Diego  and  GARCES-SOTOMAYOR, Antonia. Encounters between adults and young people who are about to leave secondary education in Chile. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.1, pp.373-388. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.1512307032016.

In the study reported on in this article, the authors focus on the "moment of transition" that students from low socio-economic backgrounds navigate when they finish high school. The study facilitates reflection among young people regarding the dynamics of their relationships, expectations and aspirations and the meanings that they have given to these concepts. Through discussion groups the authors facilitated the expression of the language and experiences of young people, which were interpreted using structural discourse analysis techniques. The interest of the researchers centered on constructing and describing the fundamental units that organize the meaning of their conversations in order to understand their relationships and dynamics in a communicative interaction situation.

Keywords : Urban youth; secondary education; prospective future; Youth expectations and aspirations.
